The mechanical equivalent of the internet in transportation.


The internet as the means to exchange information has changed people's lifes and the world. It's the ultimate way to transfer non-material content. Still though people and goods are moving around on ground, almost the same way they had been for a century or more. The used means have been improved and keep improving but nothing new in the concepts used. Mainly, everybody is stuck using automobiles of all kinds.


People who dare to envision, think that it's about time for the great and magnificent of science and technology to start thinking of new ways that people and goods, material content, will be moving around, ways conceptually competent with the internet. We are talking door to door with minimal effort. A network  of cables (?) supported on ground extending everywhere, through every street. Going in to every home, every building, will carry the load, with "carts" for two or four persons maximum and equivalent sizes for goods. One,if wishes would buy its own cart and ride the network (like had a personal driver) and off course your pizza will be delivered, but now you could order from a lot further away because its going to take the same time that now takes from your local store. This would have changed people's lifes and the world as much as the internet has.  

It can be done, the technologies are here, hardware and software to control it, maybe there will only be a need for a smart invention to accommodate the changing of direction on the network  of cables. It will not be unfriendly to the environment, architecturally speaking and since it's going to be electrical, a lot less pollutant to it. We are used to seeing posts around us anyway, carrying electricity or lighting the streets. One system of posts can accommodate everything and if decorated and lighted with sophistication it's going to add to it.


If one did this next century would use drones. Are we seeing the very early signs of a new transportation vehicle for a new system in these.  GPS is allready in place to control the traffic , but if doesn't do the work completely a complementary ground positioning system could be added, for the air-ways to be planned/traced for safety. (Unless if people will never fill safe with thousands of aerial vehicles above their heads.)

And the car. ?  It's going to be a toy for adults, driving for example to the country side for picnics.

How much personal wealth is too much. Can "biological" and psycological considerations set limits to social and economic practicess.

Assume you own big chunks of land. Progressively you add more and more and you own so much that you can hardly see the other end, on flat land, when standing at the one side. You are pleased and happy and most probably proud, positive feelings that they say it's good for you, they contribute to your wellbeing. As business is very good....you keep buying more land and you can't see it all (seeing is very important for perception) anymore.
